CAMPBELL, CALIF. - October
17, 2006 - Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies today announced that an apparel
manufacturer in Jordan, American Jordanian Company for Apparel Ltd., Irbid,
is using its biometric HandPunch technology to control access and input time
and attendance for more than 25,000 workers at its textile manufacturing facility.
The HandPunch automatically takes a three-dimensional reading of the size and
shape of a hand and verifies the user's identity in less than one second. Biometric
readers eliminate the need for employees to carry a badge, thus eliminating
the problem of lost or forgotten badges. They provide more accurate information
about who is working and when.
The company was previously using a barcode badge and conventional barcode time
clock for all its employees when it identified problems with "buddy-punching."
Virtual workers and some other employees would clock-in, then leave the workplace
only to return at the end of the day to clock out.
To help with this, OptiSec, an Israeli integrator, was called to provide a complete
system that would effectively eliminate all of the issues.
"When we realized that workers were clocking-in and out for each other,
the HandPunch became an ultimate answer," said Yona Flink, CEO of OptiSec,
the system integrator, who also installed their own Da Vinci time management
and access control software. "They simply needed to know who is working,
when and for how long. The HandPunch eliminated any human mistakes."
The HandPunch units with barcode readers replaced the conventional barcode time
clocks and totally eliminated the possibility of a worker clocking-in or -out
for another worker. At the front gate, an additional HandPunch reader was installed
to verify all persons leaving the factory between 7:00 am and 3:45 pm with a
connection to the Da Vinci time and attendance system.
All workers received their
barcode badges and were enrolled on a HandPunch reader located at Human Resources.
Since all employees had to provide an ID before enrolling on a HandPunch reader,
the possibility of one person having two cards was eliminated. Requiring both
the badge and the owner of the badge to be verified by the HandPunch reader
eliminated the issue of buddy-punching.
By having a HandPunch reader at the front gate, any workers leaving the premises
would automatically be recorded as having clocked-out. Along with the Da Vinci
time and attendance software, the issue of workers clocking-in and leaving the
factory without clocking-out and then returning at the end of the day to clock-out
was eliminated.

Market Penetration Leadership Award for access control and time and attendance
applications in Frost & Sullivan's study, World Biometrics Market. Website
