CAMPBELL, CALIF. - June 24, 2003 - IR Recognition Systems, the biometric component of Ingersoll-Rand's (IR) Security & Safety Group's Electronic Access Control Division (EACD), today announced that Kurt Wherley will be responsible for supporting dealers and installers implementing the company's HandPunch biometric hand geometry solutions in the Mid-West. Hand geometry readers positively identify users by the shape and size of their hands. The HandReader is the most widely used biometric technology for access control (HandKey) and time and attendance (HandPunch) applications according to Frost & Sullivan's World Biometric Report 2002. More HandReaders are used for these applications than all fingerprint and face systems combined.
According to Wherley, "A biometric reader ensures payroll accuracy by simply requiring each employee to be present. No cards or other credentials are needed. Losses due to 'buddy punching' are eliminated. As a result, some companies report savings of up to five percent of total payroll cost."
Over 20,000 Owens-Corning Illinois employees punch in and out each day using the HandReader. Millions upon millions of transactions have been generated, each biometrically verified. More than 30 individual Krispy Kreme donut shops track their stores' employees likewise. The Decatur Hotel Group in New Orleans is implementing biometrics at its 12 hotels, famous for their French Quarter locations.
Wherley has over a decade of experience in the time and attendance market, including five years with Amano Cincinnati and six years with Identatronics.
Wherley is located in Chicago. His phone number is (312) 733-1177 and email address is kurt_wherley@irco.com.
