CARMEL, IND. -- October
22, 2008 - Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies today announced that hospital
nurseries and patient rooms, libraries, museums, theaters and other locales
requiring electrified hardware that operates at whisper-quiet levels can now
incorporate a new quiet electronic latch (QEL) option for Von Duprin 98/99 and
33a/35a series exit devices. Providing easy installation, a long life and lasting
value, the intelligent QEL solution features self-calibration, on-board diagnostics
and vandal detection/response.
"The Von Duprin QEL
option exit device is a sleek, reliable device that reduces operational noise
to a level that will not disrupt meetings, performances or study," emphasizes
Chris Gaughan, Von Duprin marketing manager. "It offers the industry's
quietest overall operation when operated mechanically and electronically."
The QEL option provides
electronic unlatching of exit devices for continuous push-pull operation and/or
access control. It can be activated through a building automation system, access
control system or by a control system operator.
The new QEL always provides
mechanical egress but can also be tied to an access control system to unlatch
it when a credential is presented or may be held unlatched (dogged) for extended
periods to provide free entry. The QEL device is also useful with automatic
door operators and may be applied to fire-rated applications when under control
of an automatic fire alarm system.
On-board installations and
troubleshooting diagnostics are built into the power supply and device. By automatically
calibrating, the QEL solution adjusts automatically to installation variations
and also features a built-in time delay. The QEL is available in a wide choice
of finishes and trim.
Von Duprin manufactures
the widest range of exit devices and outside trim operations, including rim-type
and mortise lock, surface and concealed vertical rod, fire-rated and many electrical
options. Security products include a full line of access control devices. More
