Roeper Receives Door and Hardware Institute's Ryan Editorial Award

"Balanced Construction:
A Rational Approach to Passive & Active Fire Protection"

CARMEL, IND. - December 5, 2007 - Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies today announced that the company's Kurt Roeper, manager global codes & standards, was presented the Door & Hardware Institute's (DHI) Ryan Editorial Award in the technical category for his article entitled "Balanced Construction: A Rational Approach to Passive & Active Fire Protection," which appeared in the February 2007 issue of the Institute's magazine, Doors and Hardware. The article argued that, in the current debate over "passive" versus "active" fire protection, one technology should not oppose another, but both should be applied as layered and complimentary elements of protection. Roeper stressed that there needs to be an effective balance between sprinklers and rated construction to provide the best in fire and life safety design.

In announcing the award presented October 20 at the DHI Conference and Exposition, held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., DHI CEO Jerry Heppes told Roeper, "Kurt, we appreciate all the time you spend on all your efforts for DHI, the magazine being only one small part of your volunteer time. We thank you again for all your hard work and continued support of the Institute and congratulate you for a job very well done."

At Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, Roeper is the company's representative on numerous code and standard writing bodies and is an active speaker and advocate on issues pertaining to life safety in the built environment. He has been interviewed for a feature that will appear in a future issue of Doors and Hardware.
