New Schlage KING COBRA Locksets and Narrow Stile Trims
Administrators Add/Delete up to 100 Individual Codes and/or iButton Credentials in Seconds at the Keypad
FORESTVILLE, CONN. – February 3, 2004 – IR Security & Safety’s Electronic Access Control Division (EACD) today announced that it has expanded its line of manually programmable access control locks and trims with the new Schlage KING COBRA series, which features iButton ports, 12-button keypads and standard builder’s cylinders. Comparably priced to conventional mechanical and electronic numerical code locks, the Schlage KING COBRA locks store up to 100 codes and allow administrators to easily add or delete users in seconds. Models are available for use with a wide range of doors, latches and exit devices, including narrow stile aluminum doors.
“The KING COBRA series is a first step towards migrating up the security pyramid from mechanical key control to electronic access control,” advises Chris Nieshalla, marketing manager. “We’ve taken the original Schlage COBRA lock and made it smarter and just as beautiful while greatly expanding its scope of applications. Now, an access control administrator can choose to require a pin code, an iButton, or both a pin code and iButton to gain authorized entry. Because codes can be easily and quickly added or deleted, security can be enhanced by increasing the frequency with which codes are changed, while also cutting down on the labor time and cost to accomplish this. This translates into a lower cost of ownership and reduced liabilities. The moment an employee who knows an access code leaves the company, security is at risk if steps to prevent future access are not taken.
“As soon as an employee quits the company or a new employee joins the organization, administrators can immediately delete an old code/credential or add a new code/credential at the keypad to maintain increased security,” Nieshalla affirms. “This provides considerable cost savings associated with having to continually re-key a lock when employees leave or mechanical keys go missing.”

The narrow stile KING COBRA works on aluminum doors with Adams Rite type latches and bolts as well as many types of exit devices. A selection of Ives by Schlage offset pulls also complement the function of the trim.
