Schlage PRO Series Programmable Locks Secure Fiserv Headquarters
Electronic Access Control Solution Inexpensively Lets Employees In and Keeps Strangers Out
FORESTVILLE, CONN. – March 12, 2003 – IR Security & Safety today announced that Fiserv (Brookfield, Wis.), an independent, full-service provider of integrated data processing and information management systems to more than 13,000 financial services providers worldwide, has installed Schlage PRO Series keypad programmable locks to protect common areas for their headquarters’ 700 employees.
“When I noticed strangers entering our common areas, I knew something had to be done immediately to solve this security problem,” reports Fran DuFrenne, Fiserv vice president of project management. “Our facility supports banking processes 24 hours a day. We need to make sure that our employees who are here day and night feel secure when going into the washroom and cafeteria.”
“I thought that the pushbutton locks we had previously installed were securing the area,” DuFrenne adds. “But, with hundreds of people using these doors several times a day, the locks were broken within hours of installation and had to be serviced on a monthly basis. Other people in our building were using our common areas because nothing was being done to stop them.”
At that point, DuFrenne called in Glavin Security Specialists based in Chicago.
“It was easy to find a more secure solution that required minimal maintenance and also fit within the budget,” explains Glavin technician Jason Shelton. “We installed Schlage PRO Series locks on the doors leading to the cafeteria and women’s washrooms. Now, only those who know the access codes can enter these common areas. We also replaced the twist knobs with levers, making it easier for people with disabilities to open the doors.”
The Schlage PRO Series programmable locks are stand-alone, microprocessor-based, battery-powered locks that let building managers quickly add new codes and delete old ones via the keypad within seconds. Up to 120 unique, individual access codes can be programmed into the lockset. Installation is easy for standard cylindrical, mortise latch and mortise dead-bolt locksets. No external wiring is required. The locksets require little maintenance. They provide greater than 80,000 activations, equivalent to 2 to 3 years battery life.
“I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome,” emphasizes DuFrenne. “What I thought was going to be a complicated, expensive process turned into a two-hour installation and was within our budget. What’s most important, however, is that our employees were extremely pleased with the results. Jason showed me how quickly to change the door codes in case of an emergency situation, providing all of us with peace of mind and security.”
