Schlage Open Architecture Locks Simplify Installation – Easily Integrate with 3rd Party Access Systems
FORESTVILLE, CONN. – February 27, 2003 – IR Security & Safety’s Electronic Access Control Division (EACD) today announced that the company will preview its new Schlage open architecture locks at the ISC West show in Las Vegas, March 26 to 28. The new open architecture locks offer increased flexibilities to dealers, users and builders, who no longer have to commit to closed systems, limiting their choices for supply, support or service. Future budgets can concentrate on expanding or enhancing the locking system rather than replacing it.
The Schlage open architecture locks offer seamless integration with third party access control systems. Credential data and status information required by the panel, such as door or request-to-exit status, are passed via RS-485 communication from the lock to the panel through a panel interface board provided with the locks. The access control panel maintains control of the lock status and status indication on the locks as it would in an electric strike or electromagnetic locking system.
“These new open architecture locks greatly reduce installation time, cost and complexity,” explains IR Security & Safety Marketing Manager Marilyn Collins. “Whereas a typical access control system involves the separate installation of a mechanical lockset, electric strike, card reader, motion detector and door status switch, all of the functions of these components are accomplished with the self-contained open architecture lock. This simplifies and greatly reduces installation time for installers.”
Open architecture locks are available in cylindrical or mortise models, with magnetic card readers and HID proximity reader versions available. They can be ordered with a variety of architectural finishes and lever styles to match existing aesthetics in the installed facility.
