New Schlage Modular Computer-Managed Locks Provide Enhanced Architectural Appeal

FORESTVILLE, CONN. - September 10, 2002 -IR Security & Safety's Electronic Access Control Division (EACD) today introduced a new concept in Computer Managed (CM) modular mortise locking systems. Different than most electronic software managed locks, the reader, override cylinder, lever and rose are separated in the new CM modular locks, taking up less space and exposing more of the door to provide superior aesthetics. The locking systems are available in a variety of finishes and lever styles to match existing Schlage mechanical mortise locksets.

"By taking less space on the door and having a segmented look, the architectural appeal of the door is enhanced with the new CM modular mortise locks," explains Jeff Koziol, IR EACD marketing manager of computer-managed products. "An innovative option is available to conceal the electronic and battery-packs in a second mortise pocket above the lock, eliminating the need for trim on the inside of the door and maximizing architectural appeal to the nth degree. This cleaner, sleeker appearance is a main reason that architects especially look forward to using the new modular CM locks in upcoming construction projects."

CM modular mortise locking systems have a list price of approximately $1000 per opening and provide features found previously only with online, networked systems. Without any network wires, users have many of the benefits of an online system without the heavy investment.

With the new modular battery-powered CM locking systems, multiple credentials can be easily employed within the facility, including codes, iButtons, magnetic stripe cards and HID proximity credentials. Architects and their clients can mix and match the best type of front-end solution for each opening without adding complexity to the system. Whatever the credential being used, LockLink or LockLink Express software allows for easy addition or deletion of users, access points and access privledges.

Using the modular CM locking systems, security professionals can become very creative. In tandem with other "Locknetics on Board" CM products, including Schlage integrated CM locks, Von Duprin CM993 exit trim, Locknetics controllers and Recognition Systems biometric HandKey CM readers, they can facilitate simplified, uniform access control administration across all types of openings.

With a laptop or PDA, the administrator can download programming information from LockLink or LockLink Express to the opening within seconds. LockLink and LockLink Express provide easy addition and deletion of users, determine which users can have access to specific doors at specific times throughout the day, and download recorded audit events of who has been through the door and when. The system operator can easily control both users and access points based on time of day, day of week, credential needed and/or period of time. Reports show audit trails retrieved, access privileges granted and time functions established by either the user or door.

The modular CM locking systems manage up to 1000 users and also provide audit trails for the last 1000 events at the door. With multiple time zones, multiple time schedules, a variety of holidays and other time functionalities, administrators can grant multiple users different privileges regardless of what reader or readers are being used.

Four standard "AA" batteries power the locking systems, providing two to three years of life before needing to be changed.
