VALENCIA, CALIF. - August
23, 2005 - Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle
control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced
that it has sold more than 200 MP5000 High Security Mobile Barricade Systems
since it began production of the towable barriers in late 2003. At a cost of
$29,000, the MP5000 is significantly less expensive than alternative, unsuccessfully
deployed hand-cranked units force protection specialists sought to replace.
"We shipped our first MP5000 on October 10, 2003 to a U.S. Naval Surface
Warfare Center," reports Delta Scientific Senior Vice President David Dickinson.
"The last one we shipped joined previous MP5000s already in use in Iraq.
MP5000's are also used by the Los Angeles Police Department for special events
and were used in New York City during the Republican Convention."
Designed specifically for use by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of State, U.S.
Agency for International Deployment (USAID) and for U.S. Army checkpoints in
Iraq for initial fast deployment, the totally self-contained Delta Scientific
MP5000 High Security Mobile Barricade System can be towed into position and
control vehicle access within 15 minutes.
No excavation or sub-surface preparation is required. Once positioned, the Delta
mobile barricade unpacks itself by using hydraulics to raise and lower itself
off its wheels. A DC powered pump then raises or lowers the barrier. The mobile
deployable vehicle crash barrier carries a K4/L1 rating and stops a 7.5 ton
(6400 Kg) vehicle traveling 30 mph (48 kph).
Within 15 minutes of being sited, the Delta mobile crash barrier lowers itself
into position with built-in hydraulic jacks. There is no hand cranking. Wheels
are stored at the sides and then the vehicle ramps are folded out, completing
the deployment. To move the barrier, the procedures are simply reversed.
"We're extremely gratified to have been able to quickly create a system
that is now helping protect our servicemen serving in Iraq and citizens elsewhere,"
adds Dickinson. "It is testimony to our engineers and skilled craftspeople
that we were able to respond and deliver rated results in 30 days."
