VALENCIA, CALIF. - May 23, 2002 - Delta Scientific's new DSC 1100 portable phalanx type barrier ramp has been twice tested in full scale configuration at an independent testing laboratory and has been certified to have met U.S. Department of State testing Document SD-STD-02.01 with ratings of K8/L1 and K4/L2.
Able to be deployed in high traffic locations for full manual or automatic operation within two hours, Delta Scientific's quick deployment modular Series DSC 1100 barrier can be rapidly set-up on existing concrete or asphalt roads, level compacted soils and other hard surfaces. No excavation or sub-surface preparation is required. The plate barrier lies level to the ground to allow vehicles to pass and is raised or lowered into position either hydraulically or manually. The weight of the plate barrier is balanced by a patented Delta Scientific hydraulic/pneumatic system.
"Both government and private organizations can now obtain a crash-rated personnel protection barrier that can be installed quickly and easily for heavily traveled entrances," explains David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. "Once a more permanent barrier has been installed or protection is no longer needed at the site, the DSC 1100 can be retrieved and relocated."
The phalanx-type rising plate barrier is mounted on two inertial pods located on either side of the roadway to be protected. The pods consist of a permanent steel housing back-filled with site-poured concrete. The unfilled pods weigh less than 700 pounds (318 kg) and can be moved using a small forklift, pallet jack, crane or handcart. Once positioned, they are interlocked with quick lock-unlock pins.
The barrier ramp is raised and lowered into position using a Delta hydraulic power unit operated on locally supplied power, a battery operated Delta hydraulic power unit, a full manual system or a combination. Both the locally powered and battery operated versions can be sized to provide pass-through rates suitable for most inspection and identification station requirements. Operating modes include full automatic, remote or hardwired, remote radio, card reader, key switch or by local guard push button station.
"In today's heightened security climate, organizations want to block entrances to their facilities as quickly as possible," Dickinson adds. "With this barrier, they can begin installation in the morning and have protection before lunch."
